  • Fla Pat - Why not? The problem we have faced since the collapse in late 2008 is thinking too small. We need the repairs, we need the jobs, the ripple effect in local communities - mom and pop businesses and the like are much needed. So what is the problem?

  • Tink & Fla Pat - the point is, it took the war and massive government spending in the manufacturing industry to turn the economy around during and after WWII. Obviously that is not an option today and I wouldn't suggest that.

  • Fla Pat - It was massive gov't stimulus that ended the Great Depression. You may say "wait a minute it was WWII that ended the depression." Well what was that but massive gov't spending? We fail to learn from history.

  • Ford, GM, Chrysler, VW Audi and many others do business on a multinational level. Ford and GM manufacture many components in Mexico and Canada taking advantage low labor rates and no environmental standards. They ship them back to U.S making a killing in profit.

  • The lack of accountability is part of the problem and they just don't care is the other. The more I think about it, if we are going to do nothing but expel hot air, complain about everything and do nothing then we get what we deserve.

  • So true, I watched the debates on c-span for NAFTA and the WTO. The U.S. became a member of the WTO in 1995 and the World Trade Organization (WTO) replaced GATT (General Agreement on Tariffs And Trade) in 1995 also.
